The Past Is Future: Climate Change and the Revival of Upstate New York
This is a memoir, words and photographs, that is not a memoir.
Rather it is a conversation with a quite dead but quite distinguished American literary figure (Edmund Wilson) who lived in Upstate and wrote a memorable elegy to its decline (1971). It is also a picaresque journey around the state, looking with a photojournalist’s eye at the many ways in which Upstate is reviving, with the under-appreciated potential over the coming decades for even more dramatic changes. Much of this is due, as a living author (Abrahm Lustgarten) has thoughtfully projected, to climate change.
