In Conclusion…
The world of Upstate, viewed from any perspective, shows regrowth and innovation and spirit.
A region that supports and fosters that opportunity is a region with hope.
There are (semiconductor) chips growing in fields, drones flying over those fields, grapes from afar now growing in those fields, chips with sensors rolling through and evaluating what is growing in those fields. There are new ideas sprouting in the many centers of higher education sprinkled throughout the state. …and the fields, streams, rivers, hills and mountains that gave him comfort are as they were then, protected and preserved.
It should not have surprised anyone that the natural environment and the built environment and industrialization would produce the history that New York State and Upstate have. A port city on a great ocean, New York by any name, is at the base of a great river that leads to lesser rivers. Populations spread along those natural pathways, development follows, the state develops and expands. To other territories and states beyond the state borders.
One could brush aside some of the progress as simply the cycles of history a natural evolution, a land that had been ignored for a long time, opportunity presenting. But the transformation is too dramatic, too extreme and too rapid to ascribe it to fate alone. There seems to be a more powerful driving force at work, increasingly the result of a changing climate, a warming world.
Upstate is a beneficiary of changes that are proving detrimental to other regions.
